CNN Corrects Amanpour’s Egregious Error on Soroka Hospital

CNN’s Christiane Amanpour has a long record of faulty reporting when it comes to Israel. Famously, just two years ago, she was forced to apologize for falsely claiming that an Israeli mother and her two daughters were killed in a “shootout” with a terrorist.

It appears that the veteran anchor learned little, if anything, from the episode.

In a recent video, posted on CNN’s TikTok and YouTube “Shorts” channels, Amanpour claimed that an Iranian ballistic missile struck “near a hospital” in Beer Sheva.

In fact, the missile slammed directly into the Soroka Medical Center, destroying the hospital’s surgical ward. Only a decision made just 24 hours earlier to evacuate the surgical ward prevented the incident from being a massacre.

The Iranian regime followed up the missile strike with a propaganda blitz. Initially, it claimed the missile targeted a technology park nearly a kilometer away. Subsequently, it began issuing demonstrably fake maps to suggest an Israeli military target was just across the street from the hospital.

CNN has a responsibility to get the facts right, especially in conflict situations. Inaccurate reporting, such as Amanpour’s, only fuels the Islamic Republic’s disinformation campaign.

Following CAMERA’s communication, CNN laudably corrected the video, which now states that the Iranian missile barrage “struck a hospital.” An editor’s note at the end informs viewers that: “This video has been updated to reflect Iranian missiles directly striking a hospital in Beer Sheva, Israel.”
