‘Damn I missed this place,’ Joe Manganiello says of Peaks Island

The actor shared a series of photos on social media and said he grew up spending summers on the island.

Joe Manganiello, the actor known for his roles in “True Blood,” “Spider-Man,” and “Magic Mike,” shared an ode to Peaks Island, Maine on social media Thursday.

Manganiello, who was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Mt. Lebanon, Penn., shared on Facebook that he spent every summer growing up on Peaks Island, a small island in Casco Bay, Maine. 

“In a lot of ways this was me coming home for the first time in many years,” he wrote.

Peaks Island is a 720-acre island accessible only via ferry from Portland. It’s home to about 1,000 full-time residents and an additional 2,000 summer residents. 

“I’m happy to report that everything was right where I left it,” Manganiello said. “Right down to the Moxie, Whoopie Pies, lobster rolls, ferry boats, Sandy Beach, & old WWII bunkers.”

Manganiello, whose father was born outside Boston, attended Carnegie Mellon University and first gained recognition for his role in “Spider-Man” (2002) as Eugene “Flash” Thompson. 

“Damn I missed this place,” he said of Peaks Island. “I promise I won’t ever stay away that long again.”
