New York Yankees draft Clemson signee Dax Kilby in 2025 MLB Draft

CLEMSON — Clemson baseball commit Dax Kilby was selected No. 39 overall by the New York Yankees in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft on July 13.

Kilby, who committed to Clemson on November 25, 2023, was the first Clemson commit taken in the draft. The 39th pick has a slot value of $2.51 million.

Here’s what Kilby brings to New York.

Dax Kilby picked by New York Yankees in 2025 MLB Draft

Kilby, a 6-foot-2 infielder who attended Newman High School in Georgia, is a highly rated prospect similar to Chase Harlan last year. Kilby is rated as the No. 3 player in the state and No. 42 player nationally, according to Perfect Game, and led his high school team to a state championship.

Kilby hit .495 with five home runs, 11 doubles, four triples and 42 RBIs in 99 at-bats to earn region player of the year and win MVP in the state championship series. Perfect Game rated him 10/10 in its rating system out of high school, which is defined as a potential high draft pick and/or elite level college prospect.

At the MLB draft combine, Kilby ran 3.55 seconds in the 30-yard dash, which ranked fourth in the drill, and is one of the most polished hitters out of high school. He could attend Clemson for the first three years of college if he doesn’t receive his ideal signing bonus. If he does, he will be a member of the Yankees organization, joining Harlan and Dillon Head (2023) as Clemson recruits who didn’t play for the Tigers.
