Chronicle: “First Time I’m Hearing Really Hard Boos… That Was A Nice Feeling” – EWC VALORANT Interview

Widely considered the greatest VALORANT player ever, it seems somewhat criminal that Timofey “Chronicle” Khromov has gone more than two years without adding to his global title haul. Now in the Esports World Cup final, the player has another shot at adding to his trophy collection with an EWC VALORANT win. After booking the grand final spot with a revenge victory over Paper Rex, Hotspawn spoke to the Fnatic man for an interview.

Hotspawn: Given the Masters Toronto final loss was only recent,

How did it feel beating Paper Rex today?

Chronicle: As a team, we are obviously happy. As I heard from everyone’s feelings, everyone wanted to take revenge because everyone wanted to get a trophy in Toronto, and obviously it didn’t happen. So that was like a very good revenge. That was also pretty recent, like we just lost recently, and right now we’re coming straight to another tournament [where] we have another chance to beat them. So it was pretty good.

For me individually, I didn’t care, really. I was coming to this match just with the feeling that I want to play the game against PRX. They’re well known to be, probably, the #1 best team in the game at the moment. And obviously it was a good goal to beat them up, [but] also play pretty well, and just not care about the result.

How have you found the first EWC VALORANT tournament?

Pretty good. Except for my illness. I feel not really well right now, for the past few days. But I’m not going to lie, it’s also fine. Somehow powering through, playing some good matches as well, which is obviously very nice to see. But yeah, it’s pretty good.

You’ll be against either Gen.G or Team Heretics in the grand final.

What do you make of each of those teams?

I think both teams will play pretty against us because both of them build pretty good stories. Both of them passed through [the] group stage, but not [with] an easy time because both of them had a 2-1 score — they played all the matches in [the] group stage.

Right now they’re playing very strong in their quarter-final matches. And I don’t know how the semi-finals will go, but obviously it might be very tough because both teams are really great.

Team Heretics have struggled since the EMEA final, with a poor run at Toronto.

What do you make of their comeback in this tournament?

I think they found some confidence. Obviously if we’ll meet them in the grand finals, it might be not good that they found some confidence. So we’ll try to maybe break it. But yeah, I’m really happy for them at the same time that, obviously, they powered through their problems and they found a way to play together as a team.

Have you got any words for the fans who have been supporting you at the event?

Thank you everyone who’s watching this beautiful match straight from here. It was pretty insane now. I heard some boos and maybe some good chants over there, here and there.

It was actually interesting to see, [the] first time I’m experiencing really hard boos, because I could hear them like through my headset. But yeah, that was nice. That was [a] nice feeling. And it was also nice to prove people wrong because, considering, again, how many boos I heard, you better not be booing against us in [the] grand finals.
