TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A second case of measles has been reported in Leon County, according to the Florida Department of Health.
In June, a person between the ages of 15 to 19 acquired the disease, but it is unknown where it was contracted, the Florida DOH revealed in its reportable diseases frequency report.
The second case of measles in the capital county comes amid a nationwide outbreak, with 1,267 confirmed cases so far this year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Measles is caused by a highly contagious virus that’s airborne and spreads easily when an infected person breathes, sneezes or coughs.
