Red Sox lineup: Rookie batting 7th in return from leave; David Hamilton at 2B

BOSTON — Rookie Marcelo Mayer is back with the team and will play third base Monday.

The Red Sox host the Reds for the first game of a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. here at Fenway Park.

Mayer spent the past three games on the bereavement list. The 22-year-old top prospect is 16-for-77 (.208) with four homers, three doubles, one triple, seven RBIs, 12 runs, six walks and 26 strikeouts in 27 games. He will bat seventh in the lineup.

David Hamilton is at second base and batting eighth.

Boston will face 22-year-old righty Chase Burns, the second overall pick in the 2024 Draft out of Wake Forest.

Burns made his MLB debut against the Yankees on June 24. He allowed three runs, six hits and no walks while striking out eight in 5 innings. He received a no-decision.

Garrett Crochet will start for the Red Sox. He has a 2.06 ERA but Boston is only 10-7 in his starts.
